The Metallica Limited Edition Turntable, designed at the behest of Earthās mightiest metal band, aptly delivers stunning sound and spectacular visuals. Pro-Ject have equipped the US bandās gorgeous machine with bona fide audiophile tech; from the diamond-tipped stylus needle to the metal feet, this is a no-compromise collaboration.
The design combines ease of use with the option to fine-tune the settings. The turntable comesĀ supplied with Pro-Jectās Pick it S2 C cartridge out of the box, but the S-shaped tonearm is capable of pairing with any detachable SME headshell to allow for quick and easy cartridge changes. As well as this, the tracking force and anti-skating are both fully adjustable, allowing for perfect alignment and playback.Ā
A high mass glass platter delivers style and substance, as does the use of aluminium, a material that improves tolerances during production and supplies dazzling looks. The sub-platter adds further mass to the entire platter and drive system; the result is added damping of noise and unwanted resonances. A key payback from the super accurate pulley and supreme sub-platter is a marked improvement in short term speed stability (also known as āwow and flutter). Of course, stability in every area is a crucial feature of a great sounding vinyl-based system. Accordingly, Pro-Ject equips the Metallica turntable with height-adjustable heavy-duty metal feet to help ensure it stays level on every surface.
Speed is electronically precision controlled, meaning accurate and stable velocity, and the toggle switch allows simple changes between 33 RPM and 45 RPM. The package includes a round belt for 78 RPM playback of older records.
